How much gold loan can I get per gram?

Short answer
Lenders value only the gold content of your jewellery and lend a percentage of that value, called loan-to-value (LTV). Under RBI's revised gold loan rules, the maximum LTV is up to 85% for small loans (up to ₹2.5 lakh), 80% for ₹2.5–5 lakh and 75% above that. Stones, wax and making charges are not counted.
How the amount is calculated
- The lender tests purity (for example 22 carat = 91.6% gold) and weighs the jewellery, excluding stones.
- Value = net gold weight × the benchmark gold price for that purity (usually an average of recent prices).
- Loan amount = value × the LTV allowed for your loan size.
Example
If 22-carat gold is valued at ₹9,000 per gram and you pledge 20 grams net, the gold is worth ₹1,80,000. At 85% LTV you could borrow up to about ₹1,53,000.
Gold loan vs personal loan
- Gold loans usually have lower rates and almost no credit check.
- Disbursal can happen within an hour.
- If you do not repay, the lender can auction your gold after giving notice.
