What is a good CIBIL score in India?
Updated · CardKhoj Editorial Team
Short answer
A CIBIL score of 750 or above is considered good and gets you the fastest approvals and lowest interest rates. Scores range from 300 to 900: 700–749 is fair, 650–699 is average and may mean higher rates, and below 650 makes most unsecured loans and credit cards hard to get.
CIBIL score ranges
| Score | Rating | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| 800–900 | Excellent | Best rates, premium cards, quick approvals |
| 750–799 | Good | Approval for most loans and cards at good rates |
| 700–749 | Fair | Approval likely, but rates may be higher |
| 650–699 | Average | Limited options; banks may ask for more documents |
| 300–649 | Poor | Unsecured credit difficult; consider secured options |
| NH / -1 | No history | No credit used in the last few years — not a bad score |
What decides your score
- Repayment history — the biggest factor; even one missed EMI hurts.
- Credit utilisation — how much of your card limits you use.
- Credit mix and age — a mix of secured and unsecured credit over a long period helps.
- Recent enquiries — many applications in a short time lower the score.
India has four credit bureaus — TransUnion CIBIL, Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark — and your score can differ slightly between them.
