Credit Cards

How can I increase my credit card limit?

    Short answer

Request a limit increase through your bank's app, net banking or customer care after at least 6–12 months of on-time payments. Banks approve increases based on your repayment record, current income and credit score — sharing an updated salary slip or ITR helps. Many banks also offer automatic, pre-approved limit increases.

Ways to get a higher limit

    • Accept pre-approved offers in your bank app — these usually need no documents.
    • Request an increase and upload your latest salary slips or ITR if your income has gone up.
    • Upgrade to a higher variant of the card.
    • Fixed deposit route — on secured cards, increase the FD to raise the limit.

    What improves your chances

    • Paying the full bill on time every month.
    • Using the card regularly (but staying below about 30% of the limit).
    • No recent defaults or many new credit applications.

    Should you accept every increase?

A higher limit lowers your utilisation and can improve your score — but only if you do not spend more because of it. You can always ask the bank to set a lower limit or turn off specific usage types in the app.
