    CIBIL & Credit Score

How do I correct an error in my CIBIL report?

    Short answer

Log in to the CIBIL website, open your credit report and raise an online dispute for the incorrect entry. CIBIL checks with the lender, and under RBI rules the complaint must be resolved within 30 days — if not, the bureau must pay you ₹100 for every day of delay. You can also ask the lender directly to correct its data.

    Common errors

    • A loan you closed still shows as active or overdue.
    • Late payments that were actually paid on time.
    • Accounts that are not yours (possible identity fraud).
    • Wrong personal details such as name, PAN or address.

    Step-by-step

    1. Download your latest report and note the exact account and error.
    2. Gather proof — NOC, closure letter or payment receipts.
    3. Raise a dispute on the bureau's website (each bureau has its own process).
    4. Also write to the lender's grievance officer with your proof.
    5. If unresolved after 30 days, escalate to the RBI Ombudsman at cms.rbi.org.in.

Once corrected, your score is recalculated automatically — usually within a few weeks.
