    How the SIP calculator works

A SIP invests a fixed amount every month. Each instalment compounds for the months remaining until your goal. The calculator assumes each instalment is invested at the start of the month and that returns compound monthly:

    Future value = P × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i)

where P is the monthly investment, i is the monthly rate (annual return ÷ 12) and n is the number of months. With a step-up, the monthly amount rises by your chosen percentage every 12 months.

    What return should I assume?

    • Large-cap / index equity funds: 10–12% has been a reasonable long-term assumption, but it is not guaranteed.
    • Hybrid funds: 8–10%.
    • Debt funds: 6–7.5%.

Use a conservative figure and review your plan every year. Past performance does not guarantee future returns.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the SIP calculator result guaranteed?

No. Mutual fund returns depend on markets. The calculator shows what your money would grow to if the fund earned the return you entered every year, which helps with planning but is not a promise.

    What is a step-up SIP?

A step-up (or top-up) SIP increases your monthly investment by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with salary hikes. Even a 10% yearly step-up can almost double the final corpus over 20 years.

Can I stop or pause a SIP?

Yes. SIPs in open-ended mutual funds can be paused, modified or stopped any time without penalty, though ELSS units are locked in for three years and some funds charge an exit load if you redeem within a year.
